Tesla’s Robotaxi service now operates from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., a 20-hour daily window, according to a service update from Tesla’s official Robotaxi account late on October 29. The update also brings several new rider features.
What changed
- Longer hours: the closing time has moved quickly this month, from 11 p.m. to midnight around October 17, then to 1 a.m., and now 2 a.m. Tesla did not say which cities get the new hours, and its support page notes availability can vary by area.
- Calm Mode: dims the screen, removes the FSD visualizations and adjusts cabin lighting for a more relaxing ride.
- Rear camera view: riders can watch the rear camera feed during the trip, useful in the Cybercab, which has no rear windshield.
- Trip sharing and Live Activities: riders can share trip details with a friend, and the iOS Live Activity now shows the license plate, pickup progress and a color that matches the assigned Cybercab, with updates on Apple Watch.
- Grok: Tesla’s AI assistant is now available in Model Y robotaxis.
- Accessibility: an improved vehicle-locating arrow, haptic feedback to help find the car, and music controls that work with a screen reader.
Why it matters
Late-night trips after shifts, events and nights out are a real share of ride-hail demand, and Tesla AI software lead Ashok Elluswamy had said on the third-quarter call that a 2 a.m. window was coming. After the update he posted on X: “Until bar closing time now!” The open question is whether and when the service moves to round-the-clock operation. The change lands as Tesla’s Texas robotaxi roster passed 1,200 vehicles.
