Tesla’s Robotaxi service in Florida looks set to grow. On Tuesday, October 27, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis responded on X to a post by Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt listing the service’s current geofence sizes: “They need to have the Tampa and Miami ones include the beaches!” Elon Musk replied: “Coming soon.”
Current Robotaxi service areas
According to the figures Merritt shared, as reported by Benzinga:
- Austin: 272 square miles
- Houston: 254 square miles
- Dallas: 81 square miles
- Miami: 31 square miles
- Orlando: 26 square miles
- Tampa: 24 square miles
For comparison, Benzinga notes that Waymo covers about 60 square miles in Miami and 50 square miles in Tampa, beaches included. Musk didn’t give a date.
Cybercabs now outnumber Model Ys
Merritt also reported that the Cybercab has passed the Model Y in Texas Robotaxi registrations: 544 Cybercabs against 507 Model Ys, for 1,051 vehicles in total. The milestone comes only weeks into Cybercab deployment. Days ago the Texas roster stood at about 970 vehicles.
Not everyone is impressed. Investor Ross Gerber questioned the rollout, pointing to Amazon’s Zoox expanding into Santa Monica. Tesla shares closed Tuesday up 4.04% at $407.46.
