Tesla has added two rider features to the Cybercab in Austin: a live rear camera view that passengers can open during a trip, and a quiet mode that darkens the cabin screen, Teslarati reports.
The camera view
An Austin rider spotted the camera option late Friday night, posting a photo showing a strip of rear camera video across the top of the center display. Tesla UI software engineer Evan (@CarCoder) replied that riders can also tap the feed to see more cameras and swipe it up or down to hide or show it. Before this, the Cybercab only showed rear and repeater camera feeds on its “Please Exit Safely” screen at the end of a ride.
The feature fills an obvious gap in the design: with no steering wheel, pedals, mirrors or rear window, passengers had no way to see what was behind them. Since the car’s eight exterior cameras were already there, the change only needed software. Earlier this month a rider asked Tesla for this exact feature, and Evan replied that it was “In development.” About two weeks later, it shipped.
Quiet mode
Quiet mode surfaced a day earlier, when another Austin rider posted a video of the updated Robotaxi interface showing the option. It darkens the whole screen for riders who want to rest or avoid a bright display at night. Tesla hasn’t published release notes for either feature, and hasn’t said whether they’ll come to its Model Y Robotaxis.
The updates follow a busy week for Austin riders that also brought live trip sharing and a redesigned Live Activity for iPhone and Apple Watch. On its Q3 earnings call, Tesla said it’s aiming to deliver Cybercabs to customers before the end of 2026.
