Using Clonezilla to Image/Clone A Hard Drive
Using Clonezilla is a great alternative to Norton Ghost, or Acrois True Image. Why is it so great? Let me give you the highlights on imaging Capabilities:
you can image Disk-to-Disk
Disk to Network Share
Disk to SSH Server
Disk to NFS
Partition-to-Partition
Supports for not only windows partitions, but also Linux, that’s right! you can copy your Ubuntu/Mint image to another hard drive without having to do a reload!
What else? well of course, it’s Free, and Based on Debian Linux!
If you are about to image a disk, stop by http://clonezilla.org/ and donate to them immediately, you will never use another Disk imaging software again! I cannot say enough great things about this product, i have never looked back.
go ahead and check it out, by entering the 800×600 display (don’t worry it’s plenty you’ll see)
you will see a bunch of this
followed by this:
just hit don’t touch the keymap, from there select your method, i usually use basic
work with device images if you want to image a drive, if you want to copy disk-to-disk select the second option.
if you are copying to a windows share (what i usually do) select “Samba Server”
from there it will ask you a bunch of network questions, i usually go with DHCP, the next one is important though:
don’t forget that since this is a Linux product, that you have to specify the DOMAINUsername or the whole process will not work well.
Enter the Share Name/Folder, as well as the IP/Name of the server that has your shares, as well as passwords, etc.
from there it will ask you what you want to do with the attached disk:
from here you can click to save/restore depending on where you are in the process
it will ask you a few times to make sure you are doing what you want to

go ahead and hit yes, and let the computer do all the work. It will let you know when you are all done
from there it will ask you to shutdown/reboot from there.
Thanks for reading the blog, and i hope that clonezilla can be as helpful to you as it is to us!
