Slovakia’s Ministry of Transport said on Friday, October 16, 2026, that it has recognized the preliminary type approval for Tesla FSD (Supervised), so eligible Tesla drivers can use the system on Slovak roads. Reuters reported that Tesla confirmed the approval on X and said the rollout will begin soon.
How the approval works
The underlying approval was issued by the Dutch vehicle authority RDW on April 10. EU rules let other member states recognize that approval for their own territory, which is what Slovakia has now done. By Tesla North’s count, that makes Slovakia the ninth EU country, after the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, Czechia and Croatia. An EU-wide vote isn’t expected before December, which is why countries keep signing on one at a time.
Still a supervised system
The ministry describes the package as driver assistance that uses cameras and neural networks to accelerate, brake, steer, change lanes, handle intersections, and respond to signs and traffic lights. Transport Minister Jozef Ráž stressed that it isn’t full autonomy: the driver stays fully responsible, and the system monitors the driver’s attention, warns them when they’re not focused, and can switch itself off.
What’s still unknown
Tesla hasn’t said when the feature will be switched on for Slovak owners or which cars and software versions get it first. On most of its European sites, Tesla now calls the system “Assisted Driving,” though the Slovak statement uses the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) name.
